Second vin – Margaux

“Elaborated by Château Margaux, the terroir is the same as for the first wine – a gravelly hillock with ideal conditions and sublimated by human labour over the centuries – but the difference is made during the blending of the different batches, after a common vinification in wooden vats. »

History

Sold under the name "Château Margaux second wine", it became the Pavillon Rouge of Château Margaux in 1908. The owners have always tried to get as close as possible to the finesse, complexity and magic of the first wine.

Terroir

The estate has a vineyard area of approximately 99 hectares, included within a total area of 262 hectares. The grape varieties are Merlot noir (20%), Petit Verdot noir (2.5%), Sauvignon blanc, Cabernet-Franc noir (2.5%) and Cabernet-Sauvignon noir (75%). The vines generally benefit from an oceanic-temperate climate. The viticulture is reasoned.

Vinification

The vines are harvested by hand. Vinification and maturing are traditional. The wines are aged for 18 to 24 months in new French oak barrels.
